Specialist Scientist/Subject Specialist
Purpose:
SAGL’s increased involvement in multi-disciplinary/multi-institutional research projects necessitate the expertise of a specialist in the fields of chromatography, mass-spectrometry and wet chemistry analyses for project design, interpretation of analytical data and method development. A large component of the position’s outputs will be associated with mentoring and capacity building and extensive experience in this field will be a major requirement.
KPAs/Key outputs
- Method development and optimisation
- Experimental design for research projects
- Training and mentoring of laboratory personnel
- Quality system maintenance and improvement (ISO 17025)
- Assisting customers with technical inquiries
Qualifications and Experience
- MSc or PhD in analytical chemistry
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the field of chromatography and
mass-spectrometry - Extensive experience in training of laboratory personnel in an analytical
laboratory environment - Experience in managing an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory
Knowledge
- Sound knowledge of organic and analytical chemistry
- Knowledge and experience in performing wet chemistry analyses on food and feed
- Knowledge and experience in performing large monitoring and research projects
- Experience in using techniques such as HPLC, AA, LC–MS/MS and GC-MS
